Boston Classical Orchestra’s Educational Outreach in the Boston Public Schools

eduoutreach_topSince the fall of 2000, the Boston Classical Orchestra has had an active educational outreach program with the Boston Arts Academy, Boston’s first public magnet high school for the performing and visual arts. Academy students attend rehearsals and BCO concerts and hold meetings and workshops with Music Director Steven Lipsitt and guest soloists. Each spring the BCO sponsors an annual competitive Harry Ellis Dickson Scholarship for a deserving BAA student to use for private music lessons.

In 2004 the in-school enrichment program expanded to target elementary and middle school students at the Dever Elementary School and McCormack Middle School in Dorchester, culminating in a special Youth Concert for both schools, held at Dever Elementary. This year’s in-school concert will be held on June 19th.

On May 10, the Boston Classical Orchestra is excited to present the 3rd Annual Anne W. Hiatt Youth & Family Concert at Faneuil Hall. This unique event features the full orchestra and The Boston Children’s Chorus. The concert is funded by the family of the late Anne W. Hiatt,  who are dedicated to making an impact on the lives of children and families through music.

The Boston Classical Orchestra is committed to opening the doors to symphonic music for young people, and expects to maintain strong personal connections with the Boston public schools.
